About Us

Knapp Community Care Foundation is a private foundation investing in the deep south Texas Mid-Valley community. We were created in 2013 when the nonprofit hospital, Knapp Medical Center, was acquired by the nonprofit Prime Healthcare Services Foundation. As a healthcare conversion private foundation, we are required by law to invest our assets in charitable purposes similar to those of the original nonprofit entity. We are location-based, and our grant-making may only be for the benefit of Mid-Valley families.

In 2014, we began making grant distributions to fund nonprofit organizations that impact, improve, and sustain the long-term health of residents in our communities. Since then, the Foundation has provided more than $47 million in grant funding to partner organizations.

Our Guiding Principles

ORGANIZATIONAL SUSTAINABILITY

We believe that organizational strengthening is critical for sustainability. We invest in continuous learning for our own staff and Board on issues impacting our partners. We support our partners by investing in capacity building for their own leaders and Boards.

MINDSET

We are diligent in anticipating and responding to the needs of our community. We maintain a close relationship with our partners and believe in open lines of communication. This engagement allows us to be responsive and nimble in our grant-making.

COLLABORATION

We cannot do this alone. We foster relationships that promote dialogue, encourage partnership, and move toward asset-based solutions, where all stakeholders have a voice.

COMMUNITY

We foster belonging, challenge ourselves to be better, celebrate success, and learn from one another. We encourage community building among our partners. We encourage community building among our partners as we invest in their prevention, health management, and wellness programs.
